"day of atonement"
Yom Kippur | יום כיפור | "Day of Atonement "
Yom Kippur, this holiday is a fast day a day to make atonement for your sins.the the ten days before YOm Kippur is called Teshuva you are supposed to make any wrongs right during that time and make sure you have  no issues with any other people.  Traditionally you are suppose to give away the food you didn't eat to the poor. then you fast from sundown to sundown. you are suppossed to be in GOD's word the whole day and if you are near a sinagoge you are in service all day.
normally you read the story of Jonah this day as well.

During Yom Kippur it is forbidden to wear leather shoes so slippers or canvas shoes are often worn instead. Include your child in this holiday tradition by helping them create Yom Kippur slippers that are permissible to wear and fun to decorate. If you find the cardboard recommended in this pattern too difficult to work with we suggest using craft foam as it’s more pliable and at times easier to cut than cardboard.
Jonah and the Whale (switch out boat for man)
Prayer Sticks: popsicle stick with picture of family member or friend. Each day have child (or you) draw a name and you both pray for that person.
I thought this would be fun to do with the kids .... since we pray alot of Yom kippur I will post my own pics of these projects as we do them.... both of these cam from pintrest.
